CSFP Association

CSFP was created by Congress to address hunger in specific population groups in a way that mutually promotes agriculture policy and alleviates hunger through the use of food commodities acquired under government farm supports.  CSFP is an important outlet for the food commodities supported under various farm programs.

July 2009 WBSCM Update

The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture marked up the FY10 Agriculture Appropriations Bill. Included in the bill was $180 million for CSFP and language that would provide funding for expansion in the current service area as well as funding for the six states with approved state plans: Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, New Jersey, Oklahoma, and Utah. We are very grateful to the chair and members of the subcommittee for this funding level. This will allow us to get the new states going while also providing funding for expansion requests with the current states. Please remember to thank the subcommittee members for their support of our program.

The full Appropriations Committee will be meeting in a few days in regards to this bill. Please contact committee members from your area and ask them to support the subcommittee markup but also ask them to consider the full amount of funding that we are requesting in our FY10 Legislative Agenda.

Thank you for all of your hard work on behalf of our participants. The calls and emails that you sent have made a difference! This bill will still have to be considered on the floor of the House before passage there and the Senate has yet to markup their version of the bill. Please keep up the calls and emails. The Capitol Switchboard number is 202-224-3121.
