Who is eligible for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)?

The CSFP program serves senior citizens who are sixty years or older, pregnant women, post-partum mothers and children up to the age of six years old. Additional requirements are listed below. CSFP does not provide services to mothers and infants enrolled in WIC programs, children older than six, or adults who are under sixty and not pregnant women or post-partum mothers.  See chart below for income guidelines.  Click here to view USDA Food and Nutrition service website for additional information on income guidelines.

Income requirements for Mothers and Children

Federal regulations limit the household income of participants to an income of 185% of Federal Poverty Level or less (see chart above). Because residence in the service area is mandatory, some proof of your local address may be requested by the local office which enrolls clients.  This may be a local drivers license or a utility bill that was mailed and delivered to the participant.  Proof of income may be requested to ensure the client meets the income limitations. This may be a recent pay stub or proof of participation in local programs for low income residents.  Click to see the following packages:

All states administer the program in slightly different manners. Some states administer the program through the local Department of Agriculture, some through the local Department of Health, some through the local Human Services Department of the state government and some administer the program through the department of Education. Income requirements for Seniors

Seniors who are sixty years of age and who resided in the target area will qualify with a maximum total household benefit of 130% of Federal Poverty Level (see chart above).  Local offices may enroll the senior client at the time they arrive, or they may accept enrollments and re-certifications at a specific time and complete enrollment at a time when caseload is available.
