Congress Overrides Presidential Farm Bill Veto

14 of 15 Farm Bill Titles Enacted Into Law

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), which President Bush proposed to eliminate, is continued and reauthorized through fiscal year 2012, with elderly persons getting equal status with women and children for access to the program.

We have just received word from Representative Sander Levin’s office that they are doing a sign-on letter in support of the revised FY09 CSFP Budget Request. As you know, Representative Levin did a letter earlier this year for $175 million for CSFP in FY09 and gathered 131 signatures. With the markups scheduled for next Thursday the deadline for this letter is close of business this Friday. Please contact your Representative NOW and ask him/her to sign on to this new letter. Remind them of the news stories that have appeared in the USA Today and in other media outlets across the country that have dealt with rising food costs which are affecting all of us. Thursday, June 19 is when the FY09 Agriculture Appropriations Bill will be marked up in the House. Please contact your House member today and have them contact Alan Mlynek in Representative Levin’s office today!

 Thank you.

Frank Kubik
